Small group adventures. Big connection.

Each outing is designed for just 3 Trailblazers at a time (unless otherwise specified), so we can slow things down, connect with each other, and experience new things without the overwhelm of large crowds.

All outings include transportation (unless otherwise stated). Some include snacks or admission, details below!

I don’t post about myself much, but I’m the human behind this space.

I’ve spent many years working alongside adults with disabilities, and I’ve also lived inside systems where the odds were stacked and expectations were low. You don’t forget what that feels like.

It shapes how you show up. It makes you notice when people are talked around instead of talked to. When fun is treated like a reward instead of a right. When support gets quiet instead of engaged.

UO exists because I wanted to build something that feels human. A space where people are seen as adults, not kids. Where they are given room to choose, to try and to be cheered for so loudly that they never notice if someone isn’t cheering.

That’s me. That’s the lens I bring to everything here. And I’m really glad you’re here too.

You get exactly what UO is about, fun, belonging and everyone just being human together and it means so much that you’ve felt that too. Quick backstory.....

Scratch cooking has always been a big deal to me. Not in a fancy chef way, but in a this-kept-me-going way. Learning how to cook from scratch at a young age, gave me a sense of control, creativity, and pride when a lot of other things in life felt messy or out of reach.

Small group adventures have also always been my favourite. They allow me to actually connect with each Trailblazer, and just as importantly, they give Trailblazers the space to connect with one another. That connection piece is everything to me.

When I was first brainstorming Unique Optimism, this was one of those vision ideas I kept coming back to. Food, skills, confidence, connection. All wrapped into one.

Seeing this program finally come to life feels really special, and honestly a little full circle. I am so hopeful this becomes a monthly program, and I am beyond excited to keep building it alongside our Trailblazers.

Each Trailblazer absolutely rocked it. The effort, curiosity, teamwork, and willingness to try something new did not go unnoticed. Watching everyone jump in, ask questions, and support one another was the best part of the night.

It was also so exciting having TGIF Nights meet the Adventure Club. Seeing those two worlds come together was such a cool reminder of why these programs matter.

Huge thank you to the Trailblazer Champions for signing folks up and supporting them in giving this a try. None of this happens without you, and it truly takes a team.

Trailblazer Sidekick Doug for cheering everyone on. Volunteer Champion Deb for jumping in to help. And a special shoutout to our Trailblazer Champions who brought the vibes!

Pro tip for anyone running bingo nights
Use a master sheet on a TV. I designed one from scratch in Canva, popped it up on the screen, and marked off each number as it was called. Total game changer. Trailblazers could follow along at their own pace, while we still used the master card from the bingo set too. It helped a ton.
